This Week in Tech [TWiT] // Episode 63

twit logo

Another TWIT is in the can! This week, Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, John C. Dvorak, Keven Krewell (former editor of the Microprocessor Report, now Director of Strategic Marketing at Nvidia) and Darren Kitchen of HAK.5, all gather around the table to talk tech news again this week. Among the stories discussed are why the just-announced AMD merger with ATI is doomed, why YouTube must fall, and why Intel’s Core2 Duo chips are more like Pentium 3s than Pentium 4s; along with other assorted curmudegonly topics and doomsaying. Enjoy!

infected logo

At long last! A new episode of Infected has surfaced to save us from our Martin Sargent drought! This episode is audio-only though, so no amazing imagery to go with the audio this time around, but that’s okay. On this episode, Martin, Joey, and The Gator bask in the glow of summer and all things summertime.

This Week in Media // Episode 14

twim logo

This week’s This Week in Media is all about “long tail” media, with hosts Scott Broock, Emery Wells, Kenji Kato, Ben Durbin, John Foster, and Scott Bourne. The crew talk about YouTube and the legal challenges it has to fend off, OpenSource 3D, and long tail media, that is, the ability to provide less media overall, but more types and offerings to appeal to the broadest possible audiences, rather than placing all your bets on the hottest and most popular flash-in-the-pan types of media.

FLOSS Weekly // Episode 10

FLOSS logo

Another week, another FLOSS….I think. This week’s FLOSS Weekly brings Chris DiBona and Leo face-to-face, or skype-to-skype with Jeff ‘Hemos’ Bates, one of the original founders of Slashdot. He discusses Slashdot’s new site design, the challenge to social news and media that sites like Digg have levvied, and something about a Slashdot PT Cruiser. Sounds like fun!

Security Now! // Episode 49

security now logo

This week’s Security Now! deals with one of my favorite little tools that everyone has but no one really uses, Netstat. Steve and Leo chat about how to use netstat to keep track of what active connections are on your system, what they’re doing, and on what ports they’re running; and you can use that information to find out what applications are doing what on your system and what programs are using what ports. It’s a great way to track down what your computer is doing, and the best part is that Netstat is on pretty much every operating system.

DL.TV // Episode 79

dltv logo

Last week’s second DL.TV episode didn’t stream live and downloads weren’t really available until Sunday, so don’t blame us because it’s all manner of late! Seriously, we appreciate Patrick and Robert and their entire crew’s persistence in rendering the show and getting it out to us; and it looks like it was a good show, at that.

On episode 79, the crew open up by explaining why they didn’t stream the show live on Thursday, and then quickly move into tech news. They discuss terabyte hard drives coming down the line from Seagate, part two of building a quieter system, and the miracle of DNS Stuff. All this, tech news, a review of NBA football 2007, and tons of viewer questions. Long awaited yes, but worth the wait. Head on over and download it!
