This Week in Tech [TWiT] // Episode 74

twit logo

This week’s TWiT isn’t really a full TWiT, since it’s kind of your standard flashback episode. You know the one, where the story has progressed enough that the people behind the show take a break and re-run footage from previous episodes in a montage to tell a new, short story? Yeah-Joe Kelly compiled this hour-long tribute to the TWiTs, featuring some of the best, worst, most memorable, and most hilarious moments.

DiggNation // Episode 69

diggnation logo

Hot number 69 for the DiggNation folks! Congrats!

This week Alex and Kevin chat about the official release of Firefox 2.0, the IE team sending a cake to the Firefox dev team to congratulate them on shipping (which is wierd to me, I’d figure since FF has had numerous revisions and modifications and gone from birth to 2.0 in a fraction of the time required for the IE team to make ONE NEW VERSION, the snark should be flowing the other way), a snowflake mangified significantly, the hilarious Jack Black anti-piracy PSA, and much much more, including all the drunken hilarity you’ve come to expect.

net@nite :: Leo and Amber’s New Venture, and the Reinvention of Inside the Net!

Well, it looks like Inside the Net is about to make a change, and it’s looking like it’ll be for the better!

Literally moments after (and in the same blog post) as Leo discussed the future of TWiT and that he was a bit tired and frustrated, he announces the future of Inside the Net, and how the show will be reinvented as an interactive podcast that can be listened to independently every Tuesday, as Inside the Net was, or can be streamed live on Sundays when its recorded! Perhaps the best part of the new show is that listeners can participate as chatters or call-in guests on the show!

Leo’s got more details on the venture, and it looks like it’ll officially replace Inside the Net, which is partially saddening because I really like the interviews and product scoops that Inside the Net has brought up to this point, but here’s hoping we’ll still see those things. Additionally, it can’t really be “Inside the Net with Amber MacArthur” when Amber’s been so busy!

Get the full scoop, and download the client needed to participate in the show at the net@nite site:

TWiT Lives!

twit logo

Leo’s yielded on the future of TWiT, exclaiming that the outpour of donations, attention, and flood of comments took him totally by surprise. From his most recent post here:

I had no idea what a storm my little sentence would generate. Hey, I was tired, dispirited, and trying to figure out how to do a show without any contributors. I really didn’t mean to scare you!

I do appreciate the incredible outpouring of support. Over 400 comments on my post, thousands of Diggs and comments, and many of you even added to your donation. Thanks so much! (Some asked for additional levels of support – I’ve added a $5 and $10 monthly subscription for you.) Money’s not the problem, but it is a great way to show your support.

I’ve exchanged emails with all the TWiTs and we’ve agreed to keep the show going, with some new systems in place to reduce burn out (including my own) and keep the shows fresh.

So thanks for all your support. We’re so glad you like TWiT and we’ll keep doing it as long as you keep listening.

Personally Leo, I don’t see how you could have thought the response would be anything different than what you got, but I’m glad, at the end, that the show will go on. I can only hope that the new “systems” in place will prove effective. Call me somewhat cynical, but happily so.

DL.TV // Episode 106

dltv logo

A brand spankin new episode of DL.TV is up and ready to go! Jim Louderback and Robert Heron get together on the show this week to chat, and of course some of the biggest news is the shipping of Firefox 2, and the hundreds of Firefox parties going on across the country to celebrate, Apple’s upgrade to the MacBook Pros and the Core2 Duo processors screaming under the hoods, a malware writer who adds antivirus software to his trojan (making sure that a comprimised machine will only do HIS bidding), adding media center functionality to your old XBox, and a rundown of RSS readers!
