Security Now! // Episode 65

security now logo

This week’s Security Now is sporting a new logo! Bah-I liked the old one better, really got across the message of security, and well, wanting it now! This one’s good too, and features Steve Gibson’s mug, so no complaints. The jury’s still out whether I’ll keep using the old one or switch to the new one!

Anyway, on this week’s episode, Steve and Leo chat about why getting security right is so difficult, and hit on a couple of neat tips, like using secure socket or at least secure http to connect to GMail, more zero day exploits in XML core services and how to patch it right now until an official patch is released, and Steve finally releases a guide to safe IE usage-locking it down so you know you’re safe when you go online with it.

Futures in Biotech // Episode 8

fib logo

A new Futures in Biotech is out(with a new logo!), with host, Marc Pelletier. On this episode, Dr. Drew Endy, Cabot Assistant Professor of Biological Engineering at MIT, joins Marc to discuss his research, primarily the rapidly growing field of synthetic biology. From the episode notes, and according to Dr. Endy:

According to Dr. Endy, “We’re going from looking at the living world as only coming from nature, to a subset of the living world being produced by engineers, who design and build hopefully useful living artifacts according to our specifications”

Sounds interesting to me!

A question for TTVF readers: With the onslaught of new podcasts, TechTV Forever wants to know: Should we continue covering Futures in Biotech? FiB is a great podcast, no doubt, but there are no old TechTV heads working on the show, aside from Leo’s occasional appearance, and the fact that it’s part of the TWiT network. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
